Tail Details｜Snap Closure & Vinyl Fluke Filler

I know the snap closure design on mermaid tails gets mixed reactions. Some people love the convenience, while others feel like it takes away from the mermaid magic.

But as a proudly lazy mermaid, I actually love it. It is simple, quick, and I do not have to wrestle with a zipper before getting into the water. It really saves energy and time.

Nereid also offers something called the Vinyl Fluke Filler. It helps give the tail a more defined, dramatic shape when it fans out in the water.

The material feels like a clear, flexible desk mat and it clamps around the monofin. It does add noticeable weight. When I swam with it, I definitely felt it. I mean, I swam really, really slow.

One note if you are considering the Vinyl Fluke Filler: it only fits the new fabric tails. I tested it with a legacy fabric tail and it did not work.

Fabric Comparison｜NEW FABRIC vs LEGACY FABRIC

I purchased two tails in the new fabric and two in the legacy version. The difference is very noticeable.

The new fabric has much better stretch. It hugs the body more closely and feels more comfortable.

I wear a size S in the new fabric and a size M in the old version. That is honestly the limit of what I can fit into.

If you have a similar body type but prefer a bit more room, I recommend getting a new fabric size M or a legacy fabric size L.

魚尾小細節｜扣子設計 & 支撐板

我知道有些人對用扣子關起來的尾巴設計感到兩極，有人覺得方便，有人覺得會破壞人魚的 Magic��

但我這個懶人覺得這設計超棒，簡單快速，下水前也不會手忙腳亂地拉拉鏈，真的省事省力！

他們的 Vinyl Fluke Filler（支撐板），可以讓尾巴形狀更立體、在水中展開得更漂亮。

材質像那種透明桌墊，一次夾住整個單蹼。但也因為這樣會明顯增加重量，我實際游起來真的有感——變、得、很、慢

Summer’s here in Xiaoliuqiu.
I’m in the ocean, in a bikini, in front of the camera and I’ve got something to say.

I used to really dislike my face.
My eyes felt too small, my smile looked weird, and the worst part?
My lower face looked exactly like my mom, my upper face just like my dad.
It felt like… none of it was really me.

When I was younger, I used to think maybe if I got double eyelid surgery, life would be different?
I never did it. I don’t regret it now, but sometimes I still wonder:
If I were prettier, would life have been easier?

And because I thought I was too fat, I didn’t wear a swimsuit or go swimming for over 20 years.
I hated being looked at.
The gym made me anxious—it was just... nope.

Things didn’t start to shift until I started learning mermaiding and freediving.
My intructors would teach me how to pose and film me underwater.
And when I saw the photos and videos, I remember thinking:
“Wait. That’s me? Damn—I look good!”

That “I look good” feeling?
I had never experienced it before.

Turns out I didn’t have to change into someone else to be pretty.
When I was doing something I loved, and fully in it—
That version of me was beautiful.

So let’s stop saying stuff like “I’ll take pictures when I lose weight.”
The moment you put on a swimsuit, you have a bikini body.

小琉球的夏天來了。

我在海裡、我穿著泳衣、我在鏡頭前，然後我想說一件事。

我以前真的很不喜歡自己的臉。

眼睛太小、笑起來嘴型很怪，最討厭的是下半臉像我媽、上半臉像我爸，整張臉都覺得「不是我要的樣子」。

小時候就覺得，割個雙眼皮人生可能會不一樣？

但沒割，現在也不後悔，只是偶爾還是會想：如果我漂亮一點，會不會人生比較輕鬆？

然後也因為覺得自己胖，就 20 年不敢穿泳衣、不敢游泳。

怕被看、怕被笑，在健身房壓力也很大，怎麼動都覺得不對。

這樣的我，一直到學人魚、學自由潛水那陣子，才開始有點改變。

教練會教我怎麼擺姿勢，拍下來給我看。

那些影片、那些在水裡的照片，

我第一次看到自己會想：「哇，這我？很好看欸！」

有點震驚，又很開心。

那種「我看起來很好看」的感覺，是我從來沒有過的。

原來不是我要變成某個樣子才有資格漂亮，

是當我真的投入做喜歡的事的時候，

那個我就很好看。

所以～不要再說什麼「等瘦了再拍」之類的話了。

你穿上泳衣的那一刻，你就有 bikini body，

配上做喜歡的事情的笑容，超美！

陽光＋海龜＋沙地＝人魚天堂🧜‍♀️小琉球初階人魚潛點全攻略

在小琉球潛水，最適合人魚的潛點有哪些？其實只要有陽光，哪裡都能美到像是童話世界。陽光穿透海面時，海底的沙紋、氣泡與水光閃爍，自然就幫你打好了最夢幻的燈。而陰天的時候，就要看運氣和場景，若能遇到一些特殊自然景象，還是能拍出很有氛圍的照片。

以下是三個初階人魚也能輕鬆進出的潛點推薦，從適合拍攝的角度、深度、安全性等全方面整理

不論選哪個潛點，天氣永遠是關鍵。若遇到陰天，不妨轉換思維，拍出更神秘、更內斂的人魚氛圍。而有陽光的日子，就儘管大展身手，享受當海中仙女的每一秒吧。

1.杉福內港

適合新手｜平靜水域｜輕鬆可達

優點：

因為是內港水域，海況通常非常平穩，不太會被浪搞壞造型
水深多在三米以內，很適合剛開始練習動作與呼吸控制的人魚
時常有海龜悠閒經過，加一點奇幻感沒問題
沙灘上裝備、拍攝都方便

缺點：

景觀比較單一，主要是沙地和少量礁岩，沒有太多變化
想拍出夢幻大場面，可能要靠陽光幫忙，或是自己加入道具巧思

2. 中澳沙灘

大片沙地｜光影絕美｜有龜加分

優點：

擁有大面積白沙底，在陽光下光影真的超級漂亮
有一些礁石和沙地交界處，可以多一點背景變化
一樣是三米以內的水深，讓人魚可以自在展演
偶爾有海龜入鏡，是最棒的天然攝影搭檔

缺點：

假日或天氣好的時候，SUP 和獨木舟會滿到爆炸
拍照時要特別注意背景和安全，避免有太多水上活動干擾

3. 大福漁港

人氣潛點｜容易作伴｜特殊季節可拍

優點：

幾乎所有來小琉球潛水的人都會來這裡，遇到同好機率高
好找潛伴、容易約拍，對獨潛者來說很友善
若剛好遇到馬尾藻爆發或其他特殊景象，畫面張力會很強

缺點：

同樣也容易被 SUP 和獨木舟塞滿，尤其在入口區域
海底景觀變化不大，不太適合長時間拍攝同一背景
拍攝時機要選得很準，否則容易拍出很「人擠人」的畫面

Sunlight is the best filter

If you're dreaming of gliding through the ocean like a mermaid, Xiaoliuqiu has plenty of beginner-friendly spots where you can make that dream come true. The truth is— as long as there's sunlight, anywhere can look magical. Light rays dancing through the water, sandy textures, bubbles sparkling in the current… It's like nature's own special effects.

But when it’s cloudy, you’ll want to look for unique scenery or special seasonal moments to make your photos stand out.

Here are three great entry-level dive spots perfect for mermaiding, especially from a photo and safety perspective:

No matter which spot you choose, weather makes all the difference. On cloudy days, go for a moodier, mysterious mermaid vibe. But when the sun is out—dive in, flip that tail, and let the light work its magic.

1. Shanfu Inner Harbor

Beginner-friendly｜Calm waters｜Turtle sightings

Pros:

Protected harbor area means super calm water, perfect for posing without fighting the waves
Shallow depth (within 3 meters), ideal for those practicing breath holds and fluid movements
Sea turtles are often spotted here, adding a touch of magic to your underwater scene
There's a small beach for easy gear setup and entry

Cons:

Not much variation in the background—mostly sandy seabed and a few scattered rocks
You’ll need sunlight or props to create more visual interest in your photos

2. Zhong’ao Beach

Wide sandy area｜Lovely light play｜Frequent turtle visits

Pros:

A beautiful expanse of white sand creates stunning natural light effects underwater
Sandy patches mixed with scattered reef rocks give you options for different backgrounds
Shallow depths (within 3 meters) allow easy and graceful mermaid movement
Sea turtles often cruise by, perfect for candid mermaid-turtle shots

Cons:

On sunny weekends or holidays, this spot gets crowded with SUPs and kayaks
You'll need to be mindful of your surroundings when taking photos

3. Dafu Fishing Harbor

Popular spot｜Easy to find buddies｜Best with seasonal magic

Pros:

Almost everyone who dives Xiaoliuqiu has been here—easy to find company or dive buddies
Great for solo mermaids looking for a safe and social spot
Occasionally, you’ll catch massive sargassum blooms or other rare natural scenes that make for dramatic photos

Cons:

Also a hotspot for SUP and kayak traffic, especially in the shallow entry zones
Not many standout background features unless nature decides to surprise you
Can feel crowded, so timing your shoot is important
